Meet Dr. Pat Freeman

Like many Hood River residents, Pat Freeman is an outdoor enthusiast.  Fact is, he’s found solace in the great outdoors since he was a boy, growing up in Missouri.

From an early age, Pat knew he loved being outside. But it wasn’t until he graduated from the University of Missouri at Kansas City Dental School in 1983 and practiced in the heart of America for 13 years that he and his wife realized they wanted to relocate somewhere new – somewhere that allowed people to work and play all in the same day. In 1996, they moved to the perfect location: Hood River, Oregon in the Columbia River Gorge.

The Freeman Philosophy

Pat loves to work with his hands and help people, so it’s no wonder he’s a dentist. Pat’s core dental philosophy is based on a comprehensive examination. He checks not just your teeth and gums but the relationship of your bite and jaw joints to the rest of your mouth. From that, the cause and effect of different aspects of your oral health, or lack of, can be assessed, getting to the base diagnostic cause of your particular dental issue.

Once he’d spent about three years being a dentist, Pat realized there was more to learn about his profession. He wondered why his patients were having the problems they were having, why teeth were worn and breaking, why people had jaw and head pain, why some restorations would fail so quickly and why his patients would complain about an uncomfortable bite when the problem, if he went with the single cause remedy, should have been fixed. What he discovered was that every dental issue usually has several causes.

His quest led him to the Dawson Center for Advanced Dental Studies, which changed the way he and countless other dentists have approached dentistry since.

“It has made the dental portion of my life so much more predictable and enjoyable,” said Dr. Pat Freeman.” I get to the rudimentary causes of our patient’s problems, educating them visually with intra-oral cameras, IPad apps,  and verbally explaining their particular situation and the options available to obtain excellent oral health.”

Time & Quality Matter

Today, Dr. Pat Freeman and his team of dental professionals work hard to get people into a state of good dental health. As stated in his philosophy, it starts with a comprehensive examination that dives deep into a patient’s dental history and then develops into a long-term, life changing way for patients to care for their dental needs through education and interaction – a true doctor-patient relationship.
